Today I am bringing you some in-person stylish clothing stores. And yes, they don’t just sell any clothes, they are genuine plus size clothing stores – in Korea!

The Struggle to Find Plus Size Clothing Stores in Korea

So, I am pretty sure that nearly every expat has had at least one encounter with an item of clothing that they have fallen in love with, but sadly it just wouldn’t fit. It has happened to me… so many times I have stopped counting.

Most Korean clothing stores sell infamous free sizes. It is just one single standard size that clothing is available in. This size varies from store to store, and between clothing items. However, in most stores, the biggest size you can find is a US size 6 (Korean 95). Even then, the measurements very rarely accommodate larger chest and hip sizes. It is not uncommon for even thin expat and immigrant women to have trouble finding properly fitting clothing in South Korea.

The Dreaded Task

With the seasons changing and the weather becoming colder and colder, I was faced with having to buy new clothes. You see, I am not a fan of buying clothes. I don’t have much energy when it comes to trying them on or going from store to store in search of something that fits properly. It’s just not a fun experience.

But, my thick thighs have managed to grind up all of my jeans… a problem that many curvy girls face. It wasn’t a problem at all for a few months because my jeans had been left in the back of my closet during the humid Korean summer. But now, the weather is cold. This, means it is time to execute the daunting task of finding a plus size clothing store in Korea.

Richmood: Hongdae

Now I am in need of jeans, pants, sweaters and more. And since I am not a lover of jumping into all of the stores to try to find something new, I decided to look for online shops. The only thing is, sizes are harder to measure when you are buying online.

So, this is one of the reasons I am introducing you to Richmood. They have both a physical store and an online one too. Online, every single pant’s measurements are listed (hip width, pant length, and waist width too). Ever since I stumbled upon this store, I have not wanted to look anywhere else.Plus, at the in-person location, you can try everything on to make sure it fits you perfectly.

They have a wide variety of clothes that will fit curvy girls, but with the beauty of Korean clothes. So, more than just buying the clothes that will fit me, for the first time in Korea, I could also buy clothes that I liked.

This store also has an in-real-life place you can go to and try the fits. So, if you are the opposite of me and like trying out outfit after outfit, you can go directly to their store address and have a nice evening trying out different styles and clothing items. I am sure you will end up taking more than one clothing item with you at the end of your visit!

Romistory: Hongdae

Romistory is probably the most accessible in-person plus size store in South Korea. They have multiple locations all over the country. Also, the store offers a lot more options, styles, and sizes than Richmood. However, it is a little bit pricier, but the items are also better made.

Most of the items in the in-person store are plus size, but there are a few options for people in the normal Korean size range too. Plus, they offer a few options in sizes that are above standard Korean plus size. Standard Korean plus sizes are from around a US size 8 to 16. They have sizes up to around a US 22.

There are some drawbacks to Romistory though. Their tops tend to be made for people with longer-than-average torsos and there is a real lack of plus size models on their online store, and social media. For this reason, I prefer not to shop at Romistory online. However, if you enjoy in-person shopping, I recommend checking them out.
