Backpacks with many pockets for daily commutes

Here, I’ll only focus on bags that you can use for daily commutes and other everyday activities like going to work, grocery shopping, school, heading to the gym, running errands, and more.

1. Tom Bihn Synapse 25

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (3)

The Synapse 25 has pockets for everything. Its roomy main compartment accommodates laptops, tablets, and other essentials. You’ll find smaller pockets for pens, notes, phones, and more. Quick access is a breeze with 5 front exterior pockets, and additional attachment points like webbing loops and o-rings are perfect for extras like water bottle holders.

Comfort matters and this bag delivers with edgeless shoulder straps, breathable back panel, removable sternum, and waist straps. Plus, it’s an airline-friendly personal item bag, as it’s small enough to fit under the seat of most airlines.

What we also love

The Tom Bihn Synapse 25 lives up to its versatile claim. It’s your go-to for the best durable backpack for work, ultralight travel, day hikes, and everyday carry (EDC).

Here’s proof: Dan from Half Half Travel gives the verdict that this bag does it all. In their words. “I spent a year traveling with the Tom Bihn Synapse 25 backpack. I used it almost every day! I took it on airplanes, on hikes and on walks through cities in many different countries.” And if there’s anything that I know about Tom Bihn bags, it’s that they are that durable and reliable!

What we don’t like

I do not like that the backpack lacks a padded bottom, which is essential for protecting electronics. As a result, you may need to pay for a laptop cache or sleeve for better protection. This is a consideration, especially given that the backpack is not inexpensive.

2. eBags Professional Slim

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (4)

The Pro Slim backpack is easily a top choice for daily commuters and business travelers because it makes staying organized incredibly easy and has received positive reviews from users. Even more interesting is that despite its roomy 22L capacity, the bag stays slim even when loaded out.

There are pockets and compartments for everything – a main compartment for large items, a tablet pocket, a quick grab front pocket, a hidden water bottle pocket, and an organizer panel with 8 pockets, two pen sleeves, and metal key clips for smaller items.

You’ll also like the padded and protected 17” laptop sleeve and the crush-proof pocket at the bottom where you can keep your delicate accessories.

What we also love

The bag is made out of durable 840D polyester fabric, which can stand up to the rigors of a daily commute and more for some time to come. I also love that the bag features a padded air-mesh back panel as well as a removable sternum strap for comfortable wear.

Other thoughtful features include a luggage pass-through sleeve to attach to a rolling luggage and a brightly colored interior lining which allows you to easily locate items without stress.

What we don’t like

The experts at Lifewire and Pack Hacker have raised concerns about this bag’s water bottle pocket. They mentioned that while it can accommodate a soda can or a small bottle, it struggles with taller or heavier bottles, and it won’t hold an umbrella. Additionally, I wanna mention that this pack weighs 4 pounds, which might not be the most comfortable option, especially when fully loaded.

3. Thule Accent Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (5)

This 28-liter size bag has plenty of pockets and compartments to help keep everything well-organized and ensure excellent device protection. In fact, some reviewers, like Pack Hacker, even feel that the level of organization may be “too much” for some users. So if you’re a fan of pockets, you’re in for a treat.

This best everyday backpack can securely fit a 15.6-inch device in the laptop pocket, and the padded bottom offers protection when placing the bag down. Inside, the main compartment features a tablet pocket and a bright blue interior, making organization a breeze. Additionally, there are two side mesh pockets, pen pockets, and a zippered mesh pocket for added convenience.

On the outside, you’ll find a hardshell pocket for delicate items such as your phone or glasses, a side pocket for your water bottle, and a zippered pocket for small essentials you need easy access to so you are not anxiously fumbling for your money while strangers stare and groan behind you at the cash register. Been there.

What we also love

This pack is also incredibly durable, so you can trust it to hold up to your daily adventures – even if that means taking some abuse to protect what matters most (like your electronics).

Even better, the Accent is eco-friendly, stylish, and minimalist, making it perfect for commuting, grocery shopping, running errands, and even a weekend getaway!

What we don’t like

The Accent is not waterproof. So, if you want a bag that will be able to keep your electronics and other items inside the bag dry even in a heavy downpour, you may want to consider another backpack.

4. CLUCI Women’s Backpack Purse

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (6)

This backpack purse for women is a true all-rounder! It’s great for work, commuting, travel, and even doubling up as a diaper bag. And over 11,000 Amazon reviewers gave this small backpack with lots of pockets and compartments a perfect five-star rating for its awesomeness.

Plus, it’s the best women’s backpack with lots of pockets and enough room to hold your everyday essentials: laptops, water bottles, phones, books, chargers, wallets, keys, and even umbrellas. Inside, there’s a main zipper pocket, 1 interior zipper pocket, and 1 interior slot pocket. On the outside, you’ve got 2 side pockets and 1 front zipper pocket. Diana tried it and loved that it fits her laptop, sweater, lunch box, and more for her daily commute or cafe workdays, despite being small!

What we also like

This mini backpack is awesome! It’s got tons of pockets and it won’t cost you more than $40. What’s more, you can switch it up – wear it as a tote, backpack, or shoulder bag, because it has this handy detachable strap.

What we don’t like

People have complained about problems with zippers breaking, an unpleasant odor when they first get the bag, and the bag not measuring up to higher-quality options like the Beis Weekender.

5. Incase Icon Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (7)

I’m a huge fan of smart backpacks that are super minimalistic and that may probably last a lifetime. And that’s what this 17L organizational backpack is. There are 5 exterior pockets, a 15-inch dedicated and padded laptop pocket, an iPad pocket, a front organizer panel for storing small items, and two hip-area pockets for charging or carrying your cables.

Another thing I like the most about this casual backpack is how well it protects your expensive device from scratches and bumps. There’s a slightly suspended and fully padded laptop sleeve, a separate tablet pocket, and a top pocket for your phone or sunglasses, all faux-fur lined.

What we also love

The Incase ICON backpack is comfortable for a wide variety of body types, even for the broad-shouldered, and features a cable port for on-the-go access to portable power or audio. And if your battery is low, it has a special wing-like pocket for your power bank so you can charge on the go.

What we don’t like

There’s no single water bottle pocket on the exterior of the bag, the color options are limited and the price isn’t the friendliest. But if you don’t mind all that, the Incase Icon can take the wear and tear of everyday carry while providing much-needed protection for your gear.

6. Dagne Dover Dakota Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (8)

For those who crave a small bag with a big organization, this one’s for you! Whether it’s work, or play, this cute 8L backpack is just the right size to carry what you need without any unnecessary bulk.

Inside, there’s an air mesh tablet sleeve, two interior pockets with air mesh, and two exterior zipper pockets for quick access to things like your phone or wallet your phones. And an included key leash so you’ll never lose your keys again!

What we also love

This mini backpack with pockets can be your partner for everything – daily essentials, post-work fun, weekend adventures, and the daily commute hustle. And it’s made from 100% recycled premium neoprene, so it’s not just stylish but also eco-friendly.

What we don’t like

A big issue with this bag is that it’s tough to clean, and it tends to get stains easily. One user even mentioned that this makes the bag seem old pretty quickly. To prevent this, I recommend choosing darker colors like dark moss (army green), onyx (black), or storm (purple) instead of lighter ones like dune (pink) or heather grey, as these darker shades are less likely to show stains.

7. Matein Travel Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (9)

This affordable backpack is a true all-rounder, offering outstanding performance and remarkable value for your money. I have been seriously impressed by the Matein, and it’s clear that I’m not alone, with over 72,788 customers awarding it 5-star reviews on Amazon.

This 34-liter backpack is a champion of organization. Featuring three separate compartments, including two water bottle holders, an anti-theft back pocket, a front organizer for your small essentials, and a padded laptop compartment for safeguarding your 15.6-inch laptop and tablet, messy bag woes will become a thing of the past.

What we also like

I like that the bag is very versatile. I have seen reviews of people who have used this bag for school, office, daily commutes, laptop transport, and carry-on travel. In fact, a user has gone as far as to say it outperforms their North Face backpack. That’s a ringing endorsem*nt if you ask me.

What we don’t like

Customers on Amazon and Reddit have pointed out an issue with this backpack: it lacks sufficient padding on the bottom to ensure the safe transport of your laptop or other gadgets. Although there is cushioning on both sides of the laptop compartment where you insert your device, there’s no padding at the bottom. This means that if your backpack takes a hard fall to the ground, there’s a chance it could harm your devices accidentally. Ouch.

Backpacks with lots of pockets and compartments for travel

In this section, I will be discussing travel bags with ample storage and pockets that are perfect as a personal item bags or carry-on luggage.

8. Everki Atlas Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (10)

Designed for the business traveler or the tech-savvy explorer, the Everki backpack allows you to organize and carry lots of gear in a streamlined, compact package.

The bag consists of 4 compartments with lots of external pockets which include a quick access top pocket, a zippered flap pocket, a magazine sleeve, two water bottle pockets, and an organizer compartment. As a result, your water bottle, passport, pens, keys, cables, and more all have a designated spot to avoid you scrambling to find what you need in the security line.

In addition, the pack features a dedicated and protective laptop compartment for a 17.3-inch laptop and tablet, while the main compartment is large enough to carry whatever you need both on planes and in hotels. Travel friendly too, it allows you to go through checkpoints without any hassle, thanks to the laptop compartment that unzips and lies flat.

What we also love

I like the five-point ergonomic strap system on the Everki Atlas which helps evenly distribute weight to avoid exhaustion plus the strap management system which prevents dangling or wayward straps.

What’s not great

This backpack with pockets and compartments which weighs 4 lbs when empty can be heavy when packed full and the water bottle pockets are a tight fit for larger bottles. Other than that, its durable construction, lifetime warranty, and myriads of pockets make the Everski a winner.

9. Nomatic 40L Travel Bag

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (11)

The Nomatic Travel Pack 40L is hands down one of the best backpacks with a plethora of pockets and compartments for travel.

Inside this multi compartment backpack, you’ll find a spacious main compartment, a separate shoe pocket, a water bottle pocket, a hidden back pocket, and even a laundry bag to separate your clean and dirty or gym clothes. Say goodbye to a jumbled mess.

Business travelers will also appreciate the dedicated tech compartment for your laptop and tablet, designed to lay flat for hassle-free TSA checks. And it can hold a whopping 40 liters of gear, ensuring you can pack everything you need for trips up to a week! Impressive, right?

What we also love

I like that this black backpack is carry-on compliant, meeting the size requirements for US airlines. It weighs just 3.42 lbs and measures 21.7” x 13.8” x 7.9”, fitting perfectly in the overhead bin. While it’s not a personal item bag, its slim profile ensures it won’t hog space in the overhead compartment.

What we don’t like

Some folks on Reddit and Pack Hacker reviewers raised concerns. They find the abundance of similar zippers and the numerous features a bit over-engineered and confusing to use.

I also want you to know that when fully loaded and worn for a long time, this bag can become quite heavy and uncomfortable. To address this, I recommend using the hip belt for better weight distribution during long wear.

And finally, if you have a smaller torso, the 40L size might feel oversized. In that case, you may want to consider the 30L Travel Pack—it’s equally fantastic but slightly smaller to meet international size rules.

10. Kroser Travel Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (12)

If you tend to overpack or travel across the country every now and then, the Kroser Travel backpack is a handy pack every man should have in his arsenal.

This roomy bag comes with 4 separate compartments– one larger compartment for clothing and bulkier items, a dedicated and padded laptop sleeve that fits up to a 17.3 laptop, an iPad compartment, and an organizer with different slots and pockets for smaller items.

Even better, there are lots of external easy-access pockets for your other essentials including a protective sunglass pocket, two elasticated mesh pockets for your water bottles, and an anti-theft back pocket for extra security of important items.

What we also love

This is a water-repellent bag with a built-in USB port, a luggage pass-through strap for rolling luggage, a great price point, and an air-flow back padding system for great comfort, What’s there not to love?

What’s not great

I should warn you that the travel backpack with many pockets may be too large for shorter men or those with a small frame. There are also some complaints about the poor quality of the zipper by users. All in all, this men’s backpack with lots of pockets is big enough to be a one-bag solution for travel, business trips, and outdoor activities.

11. SwissGear 1900 Scansmart Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (13)

This backpack with many compartments will win you over not just with its affordable price but also its impressive organization, especially if you’re tech-savvy. It boasts a generous 31L capacity that can easily fit all your essentials, from your tech to clothes and more.

You’ll find a padded media pocket with a convenient headphones hole, an organizer compartment, stretchy water bottle pockets, zippered accessory compartments, and a daisy chain for attaching extra gear, among others.

But my favorite feature has to be the dedicated 17” laptop sleeve with its SmartScan lay-flat system. It opens flat, making TSA screening at the airport a breeze. Plus, the padded tech compartment ensures your gadgets stay protected even if you drop the bag in a rush.

What we also love

This backpack boasts a staggering 19,500 five-star ratings on Amazon! I think that’s an incredible vote of confidence from travelers who say it’s certainly lived up to their expectations.

Despite its larger dimensions at 21 x 15.5 x 6 inches, travelers have successfully used it as a carry-on, fitting it perfectly into the overhead bin. It may be a tad too bulky to qualify as a personal item bag that goes under the seat in front of you, but it’s still a versatile choice for carry-on travel.

What we don’t love

Sure, this travel backpack with multiple pockets has a padded back panel and shoulder straps that are adjustable for your comfort. However, I do have a concern. The 1900 doesn’t come with a chest strap for extra support. This can be an issue when you’re carrying heavy loads, as it might strain your back when the backpack is fully packed.

12. Yorepek Travel Laptop backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (14)

If you’re all about staying organized, the Yorepek Laptop Backpack has you covered with a 45L capacity, 3 multiple compartments, and 20 different pockets! That’s so many pockets!

There’s more…

It has a 17-inch shockproof laptop compartment that is TSA compliant because it has a lay flat design that opens 90-180 degrees to help you through airport security in a breeze. This extra-large bag can accommodate a range of items, thus great for travel, camping, hiking, or overnight trips.

What we also love

A luggage strap lets you attach the bag to your luggage while at the airport, and the water-resistant fabric protects your gear if you get caught in a downpour. Other cool features include a USB port so you can charge up your device safely, and a headphone jack to listen to music while on the go.

What’s not great

This is not a great choice if you prefer slimmer-designed laptop backpacks. When loaded up, it gets bulky and heavy to carry, especially when worn for long hours. But if you want a spacious and affordable backpack with compartments, you can pick this bad boy from six gorgeous color options.

Backpacks with lots of pockets and compartments for school

Here, I’ll be reviewing bags that students can use for school, and various other activities such as going to the gym, shopping, and more.

13. The North Face Recon Backpack

When it comes to recommending a brand for school, my recommendation off the top of my head would definitely be North Face. To get more specific, if you want a backpack with a lot of pocketsthat suits college life while also being handy for activities like going to the gym, traveling, or even hiking, the Recon backpack is the way to go. Notably, Gear Patrol and Backpackies also give their approval, saying it is a stylish and durable choice for school and other activities.

At 30L, it’s very spacious with three separate compartments, and several interior pockets where you can easily fit multiple books, gadgets, water bottles, and a change of clothes in the backpack, with room to spare for other items.

Additionally, there is a highly protective 15” padded laptop compartment, an extra padded tablet sleeve, and fleece-lined pockets for sunglasses or electronics– very convenient features for both travel and school.

What we also love

This bookbag with lots of pockets has a sternum strap and a removable waist belt so you can adjust it any way you want. Even better, its FlexVent suspension system and padded back panel make it very comfortable to carry even when fully loaded. Plus there are several colorways to choose from and it also comes with alifetime warranty!

What’s not great

The backpack has a slanted bottom shape, which causes it to tip over or slide down easily when you’re trying to load or unload it. As a result, the backpack won’t stand upright on its own, unless you place flat items at the bottom.

Another issue is that the dedicated laptop sleeve in this school bag lacks proper padding at the bottom, which means your device could get damaged if the bag is mishandled or thrown around carelessly.

14. AmazonBasics Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (16)

The AmazonBasic laptop backpack offers a generous 32 liters of storage space with multiple compartments and a total of 7 pockets. The smaller front sleeve is perfect for small items, followed by three larger sleeves for organizing books, clothes, laptops, and various belongings.

There’s also a separate laptop compartment that easily holds a 17-inch laptop securely and safely as you move, while the mesh pockets on either side for water bottles and umbrellas have a little bit of elasticity if needed. Furthermore, it’s equipped with compression straps that allow you to tighten the bag for a slimmer fit when needed.

What we also love

I recommend this for those looking for an affordable backpack with multiple pockets and compartments, all for under $50. This backpack has received over 12,285 five-star ratings, which suggests that it’s well-liked by many users.

For instance, James D Clarke, an Amazon buyer, mentioned that this backpack has been incredibly durable, lasting for over 7 years with all zippers and fabric still in excellent condition. Another reviewer mentioned that they’ve traveled around the world with this backpack for over 6 years.

What’s not great

The Amazon Basic laptop bag, while it has its strengths, may not be as durable in the long run compared to some higher-quality bags like Tom Bihn. While there are users who have used it for years without issues, I have also seen some reviews where people have expressed concerns about its quality. If you use it frequently, it might only last for a few years.

15. High Sierra Swerve Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (17)

This 34-liter backpack with multiple compartments is a student’s dream. It’s spacious enough to hold textbooks, study notes, gym gear, and more, making it one of my top picks for school. It has three roomy compartments for your bigger items, a built-in organizer panel with zippered pockets, and two pockets for holding your bottles or umbrellas.

I also really like how tech-friendly it is. It sports a padded tablet pocket and a protective 17″ laptop sleeve with bottom drop cushioning, so you can transport your tech painlessly after class.

What we also love

The multi-pocket backpack Pro ticks almost all the boxes for a school backpack – padded straps, a plush back panel with air mesh, and an adjustable sternum strap for the ultimate carrying comfort.

And at just under $50, it’s no wonder that over 4,300 Amazon reviewers agree: this functional backpack is a tough one to beat.

What’s not great

Some people have mentioned in reviews that the zippers aren’t great, and the main compartment is a bit narrow. So, if you need to fit big things like a binder, it might be a tight squeeze. However, besides these issues, it’s one of the best laptop backpacks with lots of pockets and compartments for students.

16. LEVEL8 Atlas Laptop Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (18)

The Atlas Backpack is packed with great features. It’s got a whopping 31L of storage space, perfect for fitting your books, clothes, folders, lunch, and more in the main compartment. You’ll also find side pockets for your water bottles, plus 26 organizer pockets to keep your phone, pens, keys, wallet, passport, and other small stuff organized, so they won’t get lost at the bottom of your bag.

And if you’re looking for the best laptop protection, this is it! The interior of the dedicated laptop compartment features a heavily padded 3D EVA foam that provides maximum defense against shocks, tumbles, and impacts.

What we also love

I like the design of this backpack. It’s crafted from tough and weather-resistant 1680D ballistic polyester fabric, so it can handle heavy use. It also features a padded and ventilated back panel and padded shoulder straps, which is great for students who have to walk—or run—long distances between classes.

What’s not great

Firstly, this Level8 bag is expensive. Although it’s well-organized and has good padding to keep your tech safe, some customers have mentioned that the laptop sleeve is a bit small. So, if you have a big 17-inch laptop, it won’t fit, and even a thick 16-inch one might be a tight squeeze.

Related:Here’s my detailed analysis of Level8 bags

17. OGIO Renegade RSS Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (19)

This bag takes organization to the next level! With three main compartments and a whopping 8 external pockets, this 30L bag offers ample space to neatly arrange all your belongings, from your valuable laptop to your earphones and ID cards. That’s a whole lot of pockets to keep things in order!

What’s even better is the exceptional protection the bag provides for your precious tech gadgets. It features a laptop compartment that can accommodate a 15-inch (or super-slim 17-inch) device, a padded pocket for a tablet or e-reader, a camera pocket, and a crush-proof vault for your sunglasses.

What we also love

This backpack with lots of compartments is truly remarkable, and Mark Adkins from The Gadgeteer has aptly described it as a “mobile warrior battle bag” – a description that I wholeheartedly agree with. Its spacious capacity makes it an excellent choice for air travel, and it even passed the test when Jay Donovan from TechCrunch tried fitting it under an airline seat.

Moreover, it comes equipped with practical features for your convenience, including a luggage strap for attaching it to your rolling luggage’s handle, adjustable and padded shoulder straps with sternum straps for added support, and a cushioned back panel to ensure maximum comfort during your journeys.

What’s not great

If you prioritize style and vibrant colors in a backpack, this particular bag might not be your best choice since it offers a very muted selection of just three colors. I should also warn you that even as a backpack with compartments when fully packed, it can become quite heavy to handle.

Backpacks with lots of pockets and compartments for outdoor adventures

In this section, I will review popular bags that you can use for outdoor adventures like hiking, camping, and even traveling.

18. The Adventure Bag from Stubble and Co.

From its 42L capacity down to its protective 16” laptop compartment and clamshell easy packing design, this backpack will make packing easier than ever before!

Also, there’s an outer bottle pocket, waterproof shoe pocket, waist strap pocket, and a large easy-access pocket to keep your quick-grab items. Plus, the backpack compartmentsare strategically placed so that you can easily access whatever you need without having to search through a mound of other items first.

What we also love

The Adventure Bag can keep up with your active lifestyle. Made from waterproof, recycled fabric and featuring water-resistant zips, this backpack is designed to last. And, for extra peace of mind on rainy days, Stubble and Co. have included a rain cover with reflective branding so you can be seen easily in the dark.

What’s not great

The Adventure Bag is a high-quality pack that is perfect for weekend getaways, short trips, or exploring the outdoors. However, its high price tag can be a concern for those on a budget. It also measures 22 x 15 x 9 inches, which is a little bit above the generally acceptable carry-on luggage size of 22 x 14 x 9 of most airlines.

19. REI Co-op Flash 55 Pack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (21)

The Flash 55 is a backpacker’s dream with its 9 exterior pockets and roomy main compartment. It’s packed with features like a convenient roll-top closure, a hydration reservoir compartment, a handy shoulder pocket, and side pockets for gear and water bottles. You’ll find daisy chain loops on the exterior, along with attachment points for accessories like ice axes and poles.

What’s more, the pack has zippered pockets in the removable top lid, which can double as a waist pack for base camp expeditions. And with its generous 55L capacity, you can easily pack for a three-day trip or maybe more if you pack efficiently.

What we also love

Thanks to REI’s compression technology and its lightweight design (just 2 lbs), it’s easy to carry even on long treks. The removable waist strap and suspension system allow you to distribute weight evenly across your body. And, the mesh back panel keeps you cool by allowing airflow as you walk.

What’s not great

The Flash pack is popular among backpackers, but it’s important to note that heavy use especially in environments like mountain trails or coastal hikes can lead to gradual wear and tear, reducing its durability. So, if you frequently engage in hardcore adventures, this pack might not be the ideal choice for you.

20. TETON Sports Scout 3400 Backpack

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (22)

With its massive 90-liter capacity, the Grand 5500 is an expedition-ready backpack built to handle the most rugged terrains and extended trips that last five days or more.

It sure doesn’t skimp on organization.

This best backpack with lots of compartments include a dedicated sleeping bag compartment, pockets, and exterior and interior gear loops to secure your climbing gear, skis, snowboard, camping equipment, and more. As a bonus, it comes with a detachable pouch for quick errands or short hikes away from your base camp. Plus, its 3-liter hydration capacity ensures you stay hydrated during your adventures.

What we also like

The backpack includes a large tarp-poncho that provides rain protection for both you and your pack. It can also serve as a makeshift shelter or poncho in case of unexpected situations.

What we don’t like

Based on Amazon reviews I have read; it appears that this backpack may not be the sturdiest choice for backpacking. Some users have experienced problems like shoulder straps tearing when carrying heavy loads, as well as reports of faulty zippers that fail to withstand extended use.

21. Mystery Ranch Scree 32

The Scree 32 is your reliable partner for a wide range of activities, whether you’re embarking on ambitious day hikes or minimalist overnight adventures.

Even better, it’s all about keeping things tidy. It boasts lots of exterior attachment points, a zippered lid pocket, and additional zippered pockets on the waist belt, allowing you to keep smaller essentials neatly organized and within reach.

Also, the signature 3-ZIP design offers rapid access to the interior, eliminating the frustration of fumbling with zippers while on the go.

And because staying hydrated is a top priority, the Scree 32 is not only hydration reservoir compatible but also features water bottle pockets strategically placed for easy access, ensuring that you can quench your thirst.

What we also love

Ensuring a snug and comfortable fit is essential for any outdoor activity, and this backpack excels in that department. Its adjustable yoke allows for quick and easy customization of the fit. Plus, the waist belt secures effortlessly in a forward pull direction, reducing the effort needed to tighten it.

What we don’t like

Justin from SwiftSilentDeadly had a couple of gripes about the Scree 32. First, it doesn’t include a rain cover. Second, the multi pocket backpack lacks attachment straps at the bottom for when you need to secure extra gear, such as a sleeping bag or a tent, to the outside of your backpack. I think Justin’s observation raises a valid point: When investing in a rucksack with compartments for outdoor use, especially one with a price tag over $200, having features like this should almost be a standard expectation.

22. The North Face Terra 65

22 Best Backpacks With Lots Of Pockets And Compartments | Travelccessories (24)

When it comes to tackling long-distance hikes or backpacking adventures, the North Face Terra 65 is the backpack you’ll want by your side.

With over 7 pockets, including a sleeping bag compartment, front stash pocket, side pockets, zippered hip belt pockets, and lash points for extra gear, it’s a storage champ and the best backpack for organization.

It doesn’t stop there; it’s got a hydration sleeve and a clever J-zip opening design. That means easy access to your essentials, even the ones buried deep in the main compartment. With its generous 65L capacity, you can pack all your travel must-haves, making it the ultimate backpack for extended journeys.

What we also love

Thanks to the OPTIFIT suspension system, the Terra 65 provides excellent support, and the adjustable straps and torso length make it a comfy fit. Add in the padded straps, padded hip belt, sternum strap, load lifters, and a breathable back panel, and you’ve got a backpack that’s a breeze to carry, even on long treks.

What’s not great

The Terra 65 backpack is fantastic, but there’s one thing I wish it had: a rain cover. Similar to the Mystery Ranch backpack, the Terra 65 doesn’t come with a rain cover included, so you’ll need to purchase one separately. However, aside from that, it’s one of the best multi-pocket backpacks for anyone seeking a well-organized backpack for long treks and adventures.

FAQs

For daily commute, my favorite is the Thule Accent Backpack. It’s got all the pockets and compartments to keep your work essentials, gadgets, and personal items in order. When it comes to travel, I can’t recommend the Nomatic Travel Bag 40L enough. It’s a beast when it comes to organization. Not only does it have ample pockets and compartments for your tech gear and travel essentials, but it even has a dedicated spot for your shoes!

If you’re a student, the North Face Recon has your back (literally!). With plenty of pockets and a roomy main compartment, it’s great for hauling textbooks, notebooks, and all your study gear. Plus, it’s a comfortable backpack you can wear all day, even when you’re lugging around those heavy textbooks.

And last but not least, when the great outdoors beckon, the Stubble and Co Adventure Bag answers the call. This best backpack with compartmentsis durable and boasts an arrangement of pockets and many compartments that cater to all your essentials.

Definitely! A backpack with pockets can be used for different purposes such as travel, hiking, school/college, and commuting.

A high-quality backpack with durable materials can last for several years, even with frequent use. On the other hand, a cheaper bag with lower-quality materials may start to show signs of wear and tear in a matter of months.

The lifespan of a backpack with lots of pockets can vary depending on various factors such as the quality of materials, frequency of use, and how well it’s maintained.

Smart backpacks are backpacks with features like USB ports for charging, anti-theft measures, and more.

Having many pockets in a backpack isn’t a must, but it sure is handy. More pockets mean better organization, with specific places for things like your water bottles or laptops. This not only helps you find things quickly but also offers extra protection for delicate items.

But if you’re a fan of the no-fuss style or don’t usually carry many things, a simpler backpack with fewer pockets will do just fine. It’s about what you like.

Maximizing space in a backpack with organizer pockets can be important, especially when you’re packing for a trip or need to carry a lot of items. Here are some tips on how to maximize space in your backpack:

  • Choose the right backpack size: If your backpack is too large or too small, you may end up wasting space or not having enough room for your items.
  • Use packing cubes: Packing cubes are a great way to organize your items and maximize space. They allow you to separate items into smaller compartments, making it easier to find what you need and maximizing space.
  • Roll your clothes: Rolling your clothes instead of folding them can help save space in your backpack. It also helps prevent wrinkles.
  • Utilize the pockets: If your backpack has lots of pockets, use them! Separate your items into different pockets to make them easier to find and maximize space. For example, your hidden pockets are great for important items like cash, passport, or other valuables you want to keep safe. So make good use of your hidden pockets when in public spaces, especially if you’re a tourist who doesn’t wanna be stranded.
  • Pack strategically: When packing your backpack, put the heavier items at the bottom and the lighter items on top. This will help distribute the weight evenly and maximize space.

Bottom Line

So, there you have it—my top picks for the best backpacks with plenty of pockets and compartments, whether you’re commuting, traveling, studying, or exploring the great outdoors. Choose the one that suits your lifestyle best, and you won’t be disappointed.

However, this list is by no means conclusive, so I’m open to hearing your recommendations, questions, or experiences with any of these bags or others of your own.

  1. Hey Femi,

For me, I’d basically want an everyday backpack and one for travel.

Actually, if I’m honest, my carry-on luggage whenever I travel has been the same holdall for the last 10 years, LOL. I typically just have in hanging off one shoulder, but it’s probably time to upgrade, and a backpack makes far more sense.

I love the look and the specifications of the eBags Pro Slim Laptop Backpack for everyday use. This is perfect for me. If there’s one thing I’m always looking for in a backpack it is a plethora of additional “hidden” storage compartments, so this seems like it would work.

Plus, the weight doesn’t bother me in the slightest, in fact I’d proabably prefer it, as I can get in a quick workout carrying the bag around, Haha.

As for travel, I like the look of the KROSER Travel Laptop Backpack. That being said, I’m not exactly the largest guy in the world, and I note that you have mentioned that it may not be great for someone who’s small or with a small frame. Nevertheless, I don’t really think that would bother me too much.

I’m not sure if I missed this in your review, but would you happen to know the storage capacity of the KROSER Backpack? I’m guessing it will be slightly more that some of the other items you’ve mentioned here.

Femi, thanks as always for your great reviews, it’s always appreciated.

    • Hey Partha,

I really appreciate the idea of having a backpack for everyday use and another for travel. Of course, some bags can do both but with time, the effect of heavy use is bound to show.

The eBags Slim Pro Laptop backpack is actually perfect for your day-to-day activities; it fits a laptop and the city supplies you need when you’re out and about.

And about the weight, trust me, I won’t judge you using it to break some sweat or for staying fit:)

I don’t know how many liters the KROSER Backpack holds but it is a big bag with multiple compartments. If I’m to guess (given its dimensions of 18.5 x 13.3 x 7.8 inches), I’d say around 32-38L.

      Hope that helps.

      Cheers,
      Femi.

  2. I think that my mother would love the Knomo Beauchamp Business Backpack, it’s totally her style. Even though she does not use a laptop, she travels sometimes between cities (to visit family) and this backpack would be ideal for her.
The Tocode Multi-Function Pocket Backpack is more my thing, and it looks like the laptop department is also protective. I think that I can really keep my belongings organized in there and it has a good water bottle holder. 🙂

  3. I like the fact that you clearly stipulate the pros and the cons of the backpacks and not just focus on the pros. You have great images displayed in your article which removes the guess work, as the images showcase clearly all the compartments and features included within the various backpacks. My favourite feature that they now include in many of these backpacks are the usb charging ports, which has become pretty essential in the day and the age we live in.

    • Hey Schalk,

Thanks for your observations- I’m glad you had a blissful experience reading the post.

Your observation about the images is spot on – while I put a lot of details in the narrative, it was important to show the compartments in order to drive home the message for this shortlist.

Yes, a USB charging port is almost a necessity in modern design backpacks these days.

      Cheers

  4. Femi,

What a great article!! I love backpacks with lots of compartments, I have to admit. The more pockets the better. This isn’t for everyone of course, I know a lot of people hate too many pockets because they think things get lost in them, but not me. It’s like a treasury of pockets! Everything has a specific place for things to keep them organized!

Great post! I’ll have to come back to this for a better bag soon. We’ll be traveling later this year and I’ll need to bring my laptop with me!

    Thanks!

  5. Hey Femi,

These are some seriously great backpacks. Unfortunately in the UK at the moment we are in full lockdown, so we cannot travel anywhere. We cannot even go into a different city, so I cannot go home to my family.

However, when we are allowed then I need a new backpack. I must check out all your backpacks here and on your different articles and choose the one that is best for me.

I will let you know which one I choose and if it is good for me.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    All the best,

    Tom

  6. Hi Femi,
These bags are all awesome I think! Perfect for travelling. Oh how I miss those days!
Wish that pandemic be over soon.

Anyway, what caught my eyes though, is the eBags Pro Slim Laptop Backpack rather than the one for women. I like it well, because it’s slim and my laptop will fit just right.
On the contrary, I already own North Face Recon Backpack, well, not actually mine but my husband. And it is really durable! He’s been using it for 3 years now, I think? And it’s still fine.

Anyway thanks for the effort of putting this detailed reviews of these backpacks.

  7. Great list of backpacks you have here Femi. Today, we bring our laptops everywhere so having a good back pack that can support that is important. Personally I must say I like the sleek design of the Incase Icon Laptop backpack. Looks like a great choice, with a sleek design to support it. Thinking of the pocket sizes what would be a good option for an iPad?

    Thanks!

The Incase Icon Laptop backpack already has a dedicated pocket for an iPad. So if you are a fan of the backpack you need not worry about where you will store your iPad:)

  8. Desperately looking for one very similar to the khaki backpack that is photographed on your headline… slightly old school! Do you happen to remember where that was from? Thank you.
